Before the by-elections on four seats in Punjab, the state government has taken a big decision and has given permission to prosecute Dera Sirsa chief Gurmeet Singh in three cases. Under Section 295A, it was necessary to obtain approval from the government to prosecute. The way has been cleared to bring the Dera chief lodged in Rohtak’s Sunaria Jail to Punjab.
These cases will be filed against Ram Rahim
Gurmeet was accused of theft of the sacred beed of Sri Guru Granth Sahib in Burj Jawahar Singh Wala in July 2015, a few days later, tearing of Sri Guru Granth Sahib’s body parts and throwing them in the streets and in October 2015, of tearing of Sri Guru Granth Sahib’s body parts in Bahibal Kalan. Later, cases will be filed against the protesters for firing in Bargari.
High Court had banned
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is also the Home Minister of the state. Mann has taken this decision when the Supreme Court gave permission to prosecute the case against the Sirsa Dera chief three days ago. About two and a half years ago, the police had sought permission to register a case against the Sirsa Dera chief but the High Court had stayed all three cases.
Questions were being raised on the government
The AAP government was not taking any steps in this direction. He was feeling very embarrassed about this. AAP Party MLA Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh had also criticized this stand of the government. The opposition was alleging that the AAP government was not able to take any action in these matters. In the Lok Sabha elections, the AAP government also had to face opposition from the people and AAP got only three seats.
Punishment passed in these cases
Ram Rahim is serving a 20-year sentence for sexually assaulting two nuns. Apart from this, four convicts including Ram Rahim have been sentenced to life imprisonment in the murder case of Sirsa journalist Ramchandra Chhatrapati. On August 25, 2017, Ram Rahim was sentenced in the case of sexual exploitation of sadhvis. After the court order, there was widespread violence in Panchkula, Haryana. About 40 people lost their lives in this. However, since his conviction, Ram Rahim has been out on parole several times. Recently he got parole for 20 days.
