The country’s second oldest party Shiromani Akali Dal is in the worst situation regarding the by-elections to be held on November 13 on four seats of Punjab. For the first time, the party chief is facing such a crisis that he is not able to do anything for the party even if he wants to.
Will SAD not participate in the by-elections?
The Jathedar of Shri Akal Takht Sahib has considered him guilty regarding the decisions taken while the government was in power from 2007 to 2017 and the incidents of sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. But till now Religious punishment has not been imposed.
In such a situation, while he is facing difficulty in getting involved in political activities, he is also facing difficulty in re-establishing the party. Meanwhile, there is speculation that SAD may stay away from these by-elections.
While the decision regarding contesting the by-election or not is to be taken tomorrow on Tuesday, if it is decided that the party will not step back from contesting the elections, then there will be a long discussion on which people will be fielded, for which the party has prepared its Core committee meeting has been called.
SAD is going through a bad phase
If the party contests the elections, then it has the biggest responsibility of campaigning for the candidates, which only Bikram Majithia can take up after him and there is no other leader who can do this work.
Experts believe that of course there is no restriction on publicity on declaration of salary. It is not said anywhere in Rahat Maryada that a retired person cannot go among the common people. But by doing so, opposition parties can make it an issue of morality and it will become more difficult for Shiromani Akali Dal, which is already marginalized at this time, to handle this situation.
Core committee meeting will be held tomorrow
The second major difficulty for the party is to select candidates. Hardeep Singh Dhillon, who contested from Giddarbaha seat, has joined Aam Aadmi Party and taken the seat. Similarly, Ravi Kiran Kahlon, who contested from Dera Baba Nanak seat, has also joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Sohan Singh Thandal, who is contesting on Chabbewal seat, is not able to muster the courage to contest, while Kulav is contesting on Barnala seat.
