In Amritsar, Punjab, a police encounter with gangsters led to the death of one criminal while another managed to escape. The slain gangster was a member of the notorious Lakhbir Landa terrorist gang. The encounter occurred on Wednesday in the village of Bhinder in Beas, Amritsar. The deceased was identified as Gursharan Singh, a resident of Harike village, from whom police recovered a Glock pistol and live cartridges.
A week earlier, on October 23, the gang’s leaders, Lakhbir Singh alias Landa Harike, Satpreet Singh alias Satta Naushera, and Gurdev Jaisal, had orchestrated the murder of Sarpanch Gurdev Singh alias Gokha from Sathiala village. Police apprehended three suspects involved in the murder from Manali, Himachal Pradesh, including Gursharan Singh, Parveen Singh from Harike, and Paras from Nurdi village. On Wednesday, while being taken to recover hidden weapons, Gursharan and Paras attempted to escape by pushing police officers and fired at them from weapons concealed in nearby bushes.
In self-defense, police fired back, resulting in Gursharan Singh’s death. Paras, however, escaped by jumping into a river in the Mand area while continuing to fire at the officers.
Lakhbir Landa is a designated terrorist involved in multiple criminal activities, including murder and extortion, while Satta Naushera and Gurdev Jaisal are also wanted in various serious criminal cases, including a grenade attack on the Sarhali police station.
