Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Russia on October 22-23 at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin to attend the BRICS summit. This time, the summit is being organized in Kazan, Russia. During this tour, PM Modi can hold bilateral meetings with BRICS member countries. PM Modi also visited Russia in July.
What is the BRICS summit?
BRICS includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South America. Recently Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates have become members of BRICS. With the increased membership, BRICS has become an organization representing 45% of the world’s population and 28% of the economy.
Chinese President will also participate
Apart from PM Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping will also participate in this conference organized in Kazan, Russia. This will be the first time after almost a year that PM Modi and Jinping will be together on one platform. Earlier, the two leaders had met only during the BRICS summit in South Africa in August 2023. Iranian President Masoud Pajeshkian and Palestine President Mahmoud Abbas will also be present in this BRICS meeting. Talking to Amar Ujala, on the peace cooperation proposal given by India to end the Russia-Ukraine war, Russian diplomatic sources said that Russia respects all such efforts. But Ukraine wants to talk only on its own peace agreement terms. In such a situation, at present neither Russia is in a position to sit together nor Ukraine is ready for it.
