On Friday, Bharatiya Kisan Union Ekta Ugrahan intensified protests in Punjab over the non-purchase of paddy, surrounding the houses and offices of cabinet ministers, MLAs, and BJP leaders. Demonstrations were held in multiple districts, including Kapurthala, where farmers blocked the Somnath Express on railway tracks. Toll plazas in Bathinda and Amritsar were kept toll-free for two days.
Farmers protested outside the residences of key figures such as Cabinet Minister Aman Arora and Finance Minister Harpal Cheema, issuing warnings to the government. They threatened to block roads if their demands were not met by October 21.
Meanwhile, Chandigarh Police prevented farmers from marching to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s residence, confining them to Kisan Bhawan. Talks between farmer leaders and the Chief Minister are scheduled for Saturday.
