An athlete from Jalandhar, identified as Varinder Singh, tragically passed away due to a heart attack while participating in the Kheda Watan Punjab sports event at Guru Nanak Stadium in Ludhiana. The incident occurred while Varinder was talking to a friend. As he was putting his phone into his pocket, he suddenly collapsed due to a heart attack and passed away before his companions could assist him.
The competition began on Monday in five districts of Punjab, including Ludhiana, featuring events like athletics, baseball, kickboxing, and lawn tennis with both young and experienced athletes participating. The events are being held at Guru Nanak Stadium, the multipurpose hall, the Government Girls School in Gill, and the Harvest Lawn Tennis Academy in Jassowal.
Varinder, who traveled from Jalandhar to Ludhiana, had competed in the long jump event. According to Coach Bikramjit Singh, Varinder was on the field at the time of the heart attack. He had completed his event by 3 p.m. but stayed to watch other athletes. Later in the evening, he was speaking with a friend at the stadium.
