While working in the education department in Jalandhar, Punjab, a teacher and clerk had committed a salary scam of Rs 36 lakh. The accused have been arrested by the Vigilance Bureau. The accused were evading arrest for four years.
Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested two accused involved in embezzling salaries worth Rs 36,67,601 for their personal interests. These accused were evading their arrest for four years. The accused have been identified as Gurmel Singh, a retired head teacher posted at Government High School, Talwandi Madho, district Jalandhar, and Sukhwinder Singh, a now dismissed clerk.
This case has been registered after investigating the complaint given by the then District Education Officer, Jalandhar. During investigation, it was revealed that both the accused in collusion had defrauded the salaries from 2015 to 2017 and deposited Rs 35,81,429 as monthly salary in the accounts of four of their relatives by showing them working as teachers in the school.
Apart from this, accused clerk Sukhwinder Singh had also deposited Rs 86,172 from 2013 to 2015 with the forged signatures of Satpal Singh, the then Drawing and Disbursing Officer of Government Senior Secondary School, Nihaluwal in district Jalandhar. According to Vigilance, both the arrested accused will be produced in the court tomorrow and the remaining accused will also be arrested soon.
