The political pitch is ready for by-elections on four seats of Punjab Assembly. Voting for the by-election is to be held on November 13. This time the credibility of many veterans is at stake in the assembly by-elections. Due to this, all the giants are trying hard to register victory. This by-election is also going to decide the political future of these leaders. This election is going to be important for Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Vading, former Deputy CM and MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer and Manpreet Badal.
After leaving Giddarbaha, Punjab Congress President Raja Vading is now contesting the election from his wife Amrita Vading. Vading has dominated this assembly constituency since three elections. This is the reason why he has now fielded his wife, so that he can repeat the results of the last election in this election also. It was under the leadership of Vading that Congress won 7 seats in the Lok Sabha. Apart from winning other seats as Pradhan in the by-elections, there is also a challenge for him to save his seat. These election results will also impact his future political journey. There are assembly elections in the year 2027, so these election results are going to prove even more important for them.
Vading has won this seat three times in a row, but his vote percentage has fallen compared to the previous elections. While in the year 2017 he had secured 45.9 percent votes, in the year 2022 assembly elections he got 35.47 percent votes.
Question of election credibility for Randhawa
This time in the elections, the situation is the same for former Deputy CM and MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa. He has been winning from Dera Baba Nanak seat thrice, but now after entering the Lok Sabha elections, he has also fielded his wife. Randhawa has held important positions in Congress. Despite the AAP wave in the 2022 assembly elections, he was successful in saving his seat. After this, he had performed his duty well by winning from Gurdaspur in the Lok Sabha elections, but now his wife Jatinder Kaur is contesting from Dera Baba Nanak, due to which this election has become a question of credibility for him. Being the MP of the area, his responsibility has increased even more in the elections to ensure that the party performs well on this seat. It is also a matter of concern for Randhawa that his vote percentage from this seat has been decreasing. While in the year 2012 assembly elections he had secured 50.22 percent, in the year 2017 his vote percentage came down to 42.83 percent, while in 2022 it fell to 36.70 percent.
Fear of losing the last election
The results in the last elections were also not good for Manpreet Badal, a five-time MLA and two-time Finance Minister. Last time he had contested from Bathinda Urban seat on Congress ticket and lost. Even he got only 18.12 percent votes. This time he is contesting from Gidderbaha assembly seat from BJP. If Manpreet wins then this election can prove to be a lifeline for him, but if the results are opposite then it can prove to be dangerous for his political future.
Meet Hayer’s friends from Barnala in the field
Similarly, this election is also special for Sangrur MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, because his classmate Harinder Singh Dhaliwal is in the fray from his assembly constituency Barnala. Meet Hayer was elected MLA from Barnala in the year 2017 and 2022, hence his responsibility in the elections has also increased.
