The Northern India Institute of Fashion Technology(NIIFT), Mohali, set up by Government of Punjab, and which is affiliated to I.K. Gujral PTU, Kapurthala, organised ‘Suvyan ‘24’, a display exhibition to showcase the final design collection of the graduating students of Textile Design Department at Hotel Shivalik View, Chandigarh.
The students’ three years of rigorous learning and efforts culminated at the Annual Final Collection Showcase – ‘Suvyan ‘24’. This year ‘Suvyan’ showcased 25 collections by the graduating students of the Textile Design Department.
The ensembles included apparels, accessories and home furnishing products. All of the products have been designed, keeping in mind the latest, trending and unique themes that the industry demands.
Chief Guest, Devinder Pal Singh Kharbanda, IAS, Director of Industries and Commerce, Punjab Government and Director General, NIIFT, graced the occasion and praised the hard work and effort of the students. He said “It is a pleasure to see Punjab providing an effective platform –NIIFT to students for learning and growing by gaining professional expertise in the field of fashion.”
Speaking during the occasion Dr. Kanu Thind, PCS Director NIIFT said, “Every year ’Suvyan’ presents unique collections of students and displays these in a grand show of creative excellence. ‘Suvyan’ every year attracts more and more companies related to the textile industry and this builds a relationship with them.”
Arshjit, Registrar NIIFT said, “Textile industry is the core and a necessary element of garment development. It is a matter of pride that NIIFT excels in providing trained professionals in this field.”
Dr. Simrita Singh, Principal, NIIFT said, “‘Suvyan’ is a very good forum to exhibit the latest trends in the textile sector. Our students have created some awe inspiring designs which caught the attention of all visitors.”
“Suvyan has been very close to my heart. Students put in their best in creating beautiful pieces of work which ultimately are recognized by the industry,” said Dr. Shweta Sharma, Course Coordinator, Textile Design Department.
Textile Design Awards were also given. The Best Design Collection went to Arifa Nigar, Nisha’s collection was adjudged the ‘Most Innovative’; Srajal Kashyap’s collection was the ‘Most Commercial’, Madhulika received the ‘Best Design Methodology’ award and the ‘Special Jury Award’ went to Shivani and Arushi.
The eminent jury to evaluate the collections for the awards included art proponents, textile designers and industry experts. The respective jury members were Sanjay Kulshrestha, Vice President (Woven), Nahar Industries, Lalru and Ravita Kohli, Senior Designer, Vardhman Industries, Baddi.
